Everything You Need to Know About Aesthetic Injectables: The Complete 2026 Guide

This article is the starting point.

If you’re at the beginning and unsure what separates Botox from filler, or you’ve heard names like Sculptra, PDRN and exosomes and lost track, or every clinic seems to recommend something different — this will lay out the whole picture.

We’ll move through each treatment quickly: what it does, who it suits, how long it lasts. Where you want more, each section links to a dedicated article covering that topic in full — pricing, timelines, side effects and all.

You don’t need to read everything. Read the section that applies to you.

Family one: muscle relaxants

Botulinum toxin

Works on muscle, not skin. Injected, the muscle relaxes, so the skin above it stops creasing with expression.

Works for: forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, gummy smile, excessive sweating.
Doesn’t work for: static lines, volume loss, laxity.

There’s a less-known use too: masseter treatment, slimming the jaw angle and relieving teeth grinding — a medical problem as much as a cosmetic one.

Family two: volumising fillers

Filler

A hyaluronic acid gel injected to fill a space and add volume. The result is visible while you’re still in the chair.

Works for: lips, hollow cheeks, chin and jaw definition, under-eye hollows.
Doesn’t work for: improving skin tone or texture.

A point rarely made: filler is not the answer to every dark circle. Where the cause is pigmentation or thin skin, filler can make it look worse.

Hybrid fillers

A newer generation combining immediate hydration with long-term stimulation in one product — such as Rich PL (hyaluronic acid + polylactic acid) and Sfera. The idea is an immediate result and a cumulative one together.

Family three: collagen biostimulators

This family works on a completely different logic: they don’t fill, they build. The material prompts your body to produce collagen, then disappears, and the collagen remains.

Sculptra

Poly-L-lactic acid. The strongest at building long-term volume and the slowest to show. Excels with generalised laxity and faces that have begun to hollow.

Important: not reversible. Filler can be dissolved; Sculptra cannot.

Radiesse (calcium injections)

Calcium hydroxylapatite. The only one combining immediate support with collagen stimulation. Excels along the jawline, the neck and in hand rejuvenation.

Family four: skin renewal and hydration

These don’t change how you look. They improve the quality of the skin itself.

Skin boosters

Light hyaluronic acid injected at many points to hydrate from within and stimulate collagen. By far the most popular in Egypt.

PDRN and Rejuran

Fragments of salmon-derived DNA that signal fibroblasts to repair the skin and reduce inflammation. Best for sun-damaged and sensitive skin.

Exosomes

Vesicles carrying signals between cells. A promising direction, but the evidence is newer and thinner than the rest — which should be said plainly.

Profhilo and Skinvive

Both for deep hydration. Profhilo is high-concentration hyaluronic acid that spreads under the skin; Skinvive’s advantage is being a single session rather than a multi-session protocol.

So how do you choose?

The only rule you need to remember: start from the problem, not the name.

What’s bothering you Best-suited treatment
A line when I frown Botulinum toxin
Hollow cheeks Filler or Sculptra
Dull, dry skin Skin booster
Enlarged pores, sun damage PDRN
General sagging Sculptra
Blurred jawline / loose neck Radiesse
Thin lips Filler
Dark circles from a hollow Under-eye filler
Dark circles from pigment Not filler — different assessment
Wide jaw from muscle Masseter botox
Preventing laxity early Low-dose Sculptra or PDRN

📄 The detailed comparison: Botox vs filler vs skin booster vs Sculptra vs PDRN

Dr. Rehab Zakaria’s advice: “I don’t ask a patient what she wants done — I ask what’s bothering her. That difference is what stops someone paying for a treatment that was never going to give her the result she had in mind. Plenty walk in asking for filler and walk out with a completely different plan, and they’re happier for it.”

Pricing: how to read the number properly

Published Egyptian market ranges for 2026, approximately:

Treatment Range (EGP) Unit
Botulinum toxin 1,500 – 6,000 Per area
Filler From 6,000 Per syringe (1 ml)
Skin booster 3,500 – 6,000 Per session
Sculptra / Radiesse After assessment Per plan

The most important advice here: don’t compare session prices. Compare the cost of reaching a result and maintaining it for a year. Skin boosters cost less per session but need three; filler costs more once but lasts longer.

Safety: what to know before any injection

Most side effects are mild and temporary — redness, swelling, bumps, bruising — settling within one to three days.

Serious complications are very rare but real, the most severe being vascular occlusion with filler.

Signs requiring immediate contact with your doctor: severe or increasing pain, skin pallor or colour change, redness increasing after day three, warmth, or any change in vision.

Who isn’t a candidate: pregnancy and breastfeeding, active infection, unstable autoimmune conditions, clotting disorders, and product allergy.

How to choose a clinic

Ask three questions before any injection, and leave if the answers are vague:

  1. What is the product name and manufacturer?
  2. Exactly how many millilitres or units will you inject?
  3. Will the packaging be opened in front of me?

For filler specifically, a crucial fourth: do you keep hyaluronidase on site?

Quick answers

I’m in my thirties, where do I start? Usually a skin booster or low-dose botulinum toxin. You don’t have to start with filler.
If I stop, will I look worse? No. You return gradually to your natural state for your age.
Are injectables addictive? The product isn’t. Repeated overtreatment without assessment is the problem.
Can I have two treatments the same day? Yes, in many cases.

For Gulf visitors and expatriate residents

A significant share of our patients travel from Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait, or are expatriates living in Cairo. Some practical points:

Multi-session protocols (skin boosters, PDRN, Sculptra) need more than one visit. For a short trip we can do the first session and either complete it on a later visit or arrange video follow-up.
Single-session treatments (botulinum toxin, filler, Skinvive, Radiesse) suit short visits better.
Leave time before travel or events — at least two weeks after filler, for bruising.

Terminology varies: what Egypt writes as سكلبترا the Gulf writes as سكالبترا, and محفزات الكولاجين and إبر النضارة are more common Gulf phrasings. They all refer to the treatments described above.

The bottom line

Aesthetic injectables aren’t a product list where you pick the most expensive or the most famous. They’re four families solving four different problems: toxin for movement, filler for volume, biostimulators for laxity, renewal injectables for skin quality.

If you take one thing from this article, take this: the right treatment is the one that solves your problem — not the one you saw on Instagram, and not the one your friend had.
